Leader Tool Kit

As a leader, you play a key role in our journey from Excellence to Eminence. You must model the behaviors and mindsets that create a high-performing culture. Also, you need to encourage your team to live the behaviors by creating an environment that reinforces and recognizes those behaviors. This is important because, if faculty and staff don’t feel comfortable operating in this mindset, they will continue working in or revert to less productive behaviors.

This isn’t an easy task, and we’ve created tools to help you. The information and tools in this Leader Tool Kit are designed to help you continuously reinforce and recognize high performing behaviors. You don't have to do this alone - you have a support team that includes your Culture Strategist, Organization Development Consultant, and Senior Human Resource Professional to help align your actions with your college/unit goals and plans, and university goals.

  • Getting Started: Tips to implement culture transformation within your team.
  • Living Our Values: Tips to reinforce the new behaviors and support your team through your processes, communications, and actions.
  • Practicing Concepts: Tips to practice individual concepts.

As you think about how you can move our values from in place to in use, it's important to be thoughtful and have a plan. You may want to review Culture Shaping at Ohio State, a description of the work required to shift culture at the college/VP unit level. When combined with the tools and resources in this tool kit, this can help you take your team from excellence to eminence.

Thank you for leading this important change!

"Leaders must sponsor change. [They] must be out there and visible, talking about it relentlessly everywhere they go. The people you’re talking to must trust you and your intentions, and trust that all of our leaders, as a group, are committed to that change.”
