Oscar-winning alum goes Epic: Chris Wedge (master's in art education, 1985) has won an Oscar, co-founded a film studio, and developed the Ice Age series. His latest accomplishment: directing Epic, a 3D animation that opened in May, 2013. Ohio State ranks 9th in the Peace Corps’ annual ranking of the top volunteer-producing schools—the first time the university has been ranked in the top 10. Since the agency was created in 1961, Ohio State has produced 1,666 Peace Corp volunteers, making it the 10th-best school in terms of all-time volunteers produced.
Currently, there are nearly 500,000 living Ohio State graduates worldwide and more than 285,000 graduates of Ohio State living in Ohio.
Outside Ohio, the top five regions for Ohio State alumni population are: Washington, D.C./northern Virginia (9,388); New York City (9,123); Chicago (8,582); eastern Texas, including Dallas, Austin, and Houston (7,940); and Los Angeles (6,819).
In the 2012 school year, 381 students were awarded a total of $531,433 in scholarship funds through the Alumni Scholars program. This program is conducted through more than 100 Ohio State alumni clubs throughout the world.
In 2012, Ohio State alumni represented the university at 220 out-of-state college fairs. These fairs reached a total of 114,720 high school students representing 1,941 high schools.
