Lantern reporter Allison D'Aurora recently wrote about the redesign and blog.
Check out her story, "University creates more user-friendly web site."

osu.edu front page needs to
osu.edu front page needs to be condensed so the whole screen shows on a regular sized monitor - major sections of university information at the bottom of the page aren't visible without scrolling down - "out of sight out of mind" - and those sections include the main links to administration, centers, information, technology and locating directory information - that's very valuable first hand information that isn't easily accessible
the picture on the front page is way too big the way it is - it, and the surrounding panels, could be made smaller and the font made smaller so everything fits on screen
the width of the page could be made to fit the entire screen - as is, there is a whole section to the right that is blank - on many monitor sizes
re: Page size, monitor size
We're currently planning the redesigned osu.edu to fit comfortably within the screen of 16"-17" monitors. The screen size for these monitors is usually about 1024 pixels wide and 768 pixels tall. Given the amount of content, some scrolling might be necessary to see all the content on the page. We do try to put the most frequently used and important information at the top of the pages.
We are also considering a design that automatically scales down if a user has a smaller screen or browser window, 800 pixels wide and 600 pixels tall, for example.
Thanks for the comment.
Designing a website for a
Designing a website for a particular screen size is a leap backwards in technology. Why don't you just use CSS and make a fluid layout that fills the users screen? I'm all for an upgrade on the site, but the reasoning that users have to scroll is stupid, administrators don't like to scroll?, get a clue or have them ask their 13 year old sons and daughters to show them how to use a computer.
More sports...
i think that they should show more about sports. like the schedules on the front page and things to that sort.
Pictures of famous athletes
pitures of famus ohio state athletic players(less horavates,
jerry luckus, ect...)
E-mail
The weekly e-mail server going down and not being able to access our webmail is getting really old, please outsource it or do something about because it really sucks, i missed a hw assignment earlier this quarter because I e-mailed it to myself and then was going to print it off at the library before class, but the webmail went down and I was unable to, so to summarize, the e-mail sucks
re: email
seconding the person above me. there are a lot of important things i need to check my e-mail for and i'm sick of it going down so often.
e mail is awful
The e-mail system here is terrible...There is no space and it always goes down. For a school this size, e-mail is crucial and it's ridiculous that this problem still hasn't been rectified, especially seeing as we are becoming more and more dependent on technology. OSU needs to step up.
Email
I agree with the other comments re:email. It is unreliable and limited.
I'm also very disappointed that I can't sync it to my Blackberry. That would be a priority for me.
email
Seriously, email is down once again, it gets ridiculous, particularly when assignment related information or classes are possibly closed due to a professor or TA being unable to make it on time/at all, and I have no access to it because my email doesn't work. If you are going to integrate a system into classes (as has been done) then you need to make sure it works. My yahoo account has never went down, and all it required of me was a suitable address and password. So come on, figure it out.
Further, carmen also has a lot of problems too. Why not focus on fixing what's already here rather than trying to make it shinier(like changing screen size...honestly, that is a pretty bad choice of priority).
To make it easy for everyone
TO MAKE IT EASY FOR EVERYONE AND NOT SO DIFFICULT I SUGGEST THAT THE FRONT PAGE SHOULD HAVE MORE OF THE TOPICS THAT PEOPLE CONSIDER TO WANT INFORMATION ON LIKE SPORTS,MUSIC,MAJORS,ETC AND WHAT I SEEN THAT SEEM TO WORK GOOD IS MAKING THE PAGE MORE INTERESTING AND CREATIVE SO IT WOULD BE GOOD TO THE EYE AND THAT WILL MAKE MORE AND MORE PEOPLE COME TO VISIT THE WEBSITE AGAIN.
Email sucks it always goes
Email sucks it always goes down...very unreliable
Email sucks
I never use the email unless I have to. Instead I foward everything to gmail which is way more reliable in every way. The few times that I have used osu webmail (just this past month) the service has been down alot. Like right now for instance. I have called them on it out of frustration but they just blow you off. This is (expletive deleted) ridiculous!
FIX THE EMAIL SYSTEM......
FIX THE EMAIL SYSTEM...... NOW!!!!
Email service is unacceptable
Agreed, the email service is unacceptable. Worry about making that work more than 50% of the time before fixing the website.
I completely agree (about email)
I completely agree with the above comments about the email. It is extremely unreliable and because it is used as a primary source of communication at the University, it should definitely not be as sporadic as it is.
The new blog
Hello,
well i think that when redesigning the blog - make sure that the navigation is much much more easier that earlier. There should be something like a citizen's journal i think where readers can have editorials and maybe guest posts??
